"Only one is a wanderer; two together are always going somewhere."
Today's look is inspired by non other than Kim Novak, and her character's wardrobe by Edith Head in the 1958 film Vertigo. Legendary director Alfred Hitchcock specifically requested a neutral color palette to wash out her fair complexion & platinum hair, so as to further coincide with Madeleine's aloof and hauntingly removed character. While Madeleine seemingly believed that she was possessed by the deceased Carlotta, she was also playing the part of a privileged wife, so her costume was designed to reflect the nature of both wealth and phantom-like mystery.
Creative Director Jenny Rieu, of The Pretty Dress Company, noticed the shocking similarity to Madeleine of some pieces in their current collection. She requested a project revolving around these garments, inspired by Madeleine's look. Being a longtime fan of Hitchcock and his blonde bombshells, and with Vertigo being one of my favorites, I had a lot of fun recreating the mood!
